Sketch and Sharpie

Erasing the Pencils

Sharpie and Word Balloons

I am so not an artist.

I mean, I guess that I am an artist in the metaphysical sense – since I am doing art, I must be an artist.  However, as far as feeling like an artist…well, I have a long way to go.  What I should say is that I have never formally studied art.  I used to sit around and draw stuff with my dad.  I acquired a few books on the subject of drawing Mickey Mouse, Simba, and Pocahontas when I was in the second or third grade.  Recently, my husband bought me a book about sequential art.  This is the extent of my artistic training.

Everything else, I’m learning by trying new things and making tons of mistakes.  And, whoo-hoo!, I get to do all my learning publicly, with the entirety of the internet for an audience.   One of these new things is drawing the word balloons into the sketch instead of using PhotoShop or GIMP to do this (as I had been doing previously).  This new development stems less from a desire to be a more…pure? traditional? not-lazy? artist and more from not only not knowing much about art-ing, but also not knowing much about graphic designing.

Pshew!  I have a lot to learn, but I’m having so much fun doing it!

Merry Christmas Y’All!
